Conservation Laboratory
The Oriental Institute maintains a Conservation Laboratory, staffed by two full-time professional conservators. The conservators are responsible for the care and treatment of all objects in the collection, and routinely monitor their condition, both in storage and on exhibit.
Beginning in 1991, the Conservation Laboratory has been connected via modem to the Conservation Information Network, a joint project of the Canadian Heritage Information Network and the Getty Conservation Institute. On-line access is available to three conservation databases, Bibliographic, Materials, and Suppliers, as well as providing electronic mail services. Access to this remote source of important conservation information has been a valuable addition to the Institute's Conservation Laboratory.
