Oriental Institute Museum Archives (access to documentary records) will be accessible by appointment only. Available space is limited, however, so please contact museum director Geoff Emberling (geoffe@uchicago.edu), or archivist John Larson (ja-larson@uchicago.edu) well in advance.
The Oriental Institute Tablet Collection and Tablet Room will be closed and unavailable for any use during the week of the Rencontre, including the two weekends before and after. In the two weeks preceding and following the Rencontre, we are willing to put up a very small number of people in the Tablet Room (no more than two or three at any given day). This will be absolutely restricted to scholars from overseas. In allotting space and time, travel distance to Chicago and date of receipt of request will be given crucial consideration. Early birds' special; all requests for Tablet Room use should be directed to Walter Farber (w-farber@uchicago.edu).
Oriental Institute Research Archives (Library) will be open during regularly scheduled hours. If assistance will be required, please contact the Librarian (oi-library@uchicago.edu) well in advance.
The William M. Sumner Computer Laboratory is a locked facility. Registered participants in the Rencontre may request access. Please contact John Sanders (jc-sanders@uchicago.edu) for further information.
The Chicago Assyrian Dictionary Project files will not be accessible during the Rencontre.
The Chicago Hittite Dictionary Project files will be accessible by prior arrangement. Please contact Kathleen Mineck (kmineck@uchicago.edu) for further information.
Materials of the Hamoukar and Diyala projects will be accessible by prior arrangement. Please contact Clemens Reichel (c-reichel@uchicago.edu) for further information.
Network Access. Several publicly accessible networked computers are available in the Research Archives (Library). Additional computers are widely available elsewhere on campus. Please contact John Sanders (jc-sanders@uchicago.edu) for further information.
Wireless Network Access. Wireless access to the University of Chicago's network will be pre-arranged for all registered participants in the Rencontre. Further information will be included in the registration packet. Wireless access is available in much of the Oriental Institute, in the Max Palevsky Dormitory, and much of the rest of the University.
