The Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute has awarded two timely grants to the Persepolis Fortification Archive Project at the Oriental Institute. One grant supports ongoing recording of the vast corpus of seals impressed on the Fortification tablets, carried out by veteran PFA Project student workers Christina Chandler (Classical and Near Eastern Art and Archaeology, Bryn Mawr) and Erin Daly (Program on the Ancient Mediterranean World, Classics, University of Chicago), under the direction of Mark Garrison (Trinity University). A second grant supports accelerated and expanded efforts by up to eight Chicago student workers to capture, edit, and process conventional and high-quality electronic images, and to enter and correct online data. These awards come at a critical moment as we await the outcome of the litigation over the Fortification tablets and prepare for the return of the Fortification Archive to Iran, along with the data that the PFA Project has accumulated.
