Mesopotamian Gallery: Travel, Economy, And Warfare
Trade, travel, economy, and warfare form the focus of this portion of the gallery. The Mesopotamians lacked numerous natural resources, including stone, timber, and metals, which they often imported from great distances. Transportation took place by boat, wheeled vehicles, and beasts of burden. Because of the limited nature of other resources, such as land and water, war was a common phenomenon in Mesopotamian life. Exhibits here include examples of weapons and illustrations of documents that record the occurrence of wars, primarily during the mid-third-millennium B.C.
