Breasted Hall: (Auditorium)
The auditorium of the Oriental Institute is named Breasted Hall in honor of James Henry Breasted, the first American to receive a Ph.D. in Egyptology, the first professor of Egyptology in North America, and the founder of the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. The hall, which seats 250 people is used for a wide variety of lectures, films and other presentations sponsored by the Institute. The painting of Dr. Breasted in acadmic robes on the east wall was painted by John C. Johansen in 1936. The hall has recently been fitted with state-of-the art-video projection and sound systems.
