Post-Event Comments:

Thanks to all who came to our non-gala fundraiser- Passport to the Middle East: Desserts in the Desert. This event was a wine and dessert tasting throughout the galleries and research archives encouraging attendees to mingle with scholars, staff and other attendees while strolling through the museum and research archives. Over 160 people attended the event and $6,000 was raised that will go to directly support the mission of the Institute. Eighteen of our scholars graciously became our sommeliers for the evening and whilst pouring also talked at a personal level about specific projects they are working on and topics of the ancient Near East. We also had three tours given by François Gaudard, Norman Golb and Katharyn Hanson that were wildly successful. This event could not have been possible without the generous support from Treasure Island Foods, our sponsor for the evening. They provided a beautiful spread of cheese, desserts, fruit and also all the wine for the evening. Andrea Dudek, Visiting Committee Member, donated two David Roberts' prints that were raffled to an excited crowd-thanks so much to Andrea for donating these prints to the event. Many thanks to all the scholars who poured wine at the event: Steve Camp, Geoff Emberling, François Gaudard, Petra Goedegebuure, Norman Golb, Katharyn Hanson, Tom James, W. Raymond Johnson, Kathleen Mineck, Clemens Reichel, John Sanders, David Schloen, Gil Stein, Matthew Stolper, Emily Teeter, Ray Tindel, Theo van den Hout and Christopher Woods.

Please join us for an evening of wine and desserts in the Oriental Institute Museum Galleries. Sip and stroll through nine galleries featuring over 8,000 artifacts from across the ancient Near East, and mingle with Oriental Institute scholars and researchers who will be on hand to discuss excavations and projects, past and present.

  • Member’s Ticket Price: $50.00
  • General Ticket Price: $60.00

This event is being generously sponsored by Treasure Island.

Evening Raffle

Two quarto lithographs, created in 1856 by the Royal Academy’s artist David Roberts (1796–1864) will be raffled as a pair during the event. Roberts specialized in ornate architectural illustrations of scenes he encountered during his travels. After more than 150 years his paintings and lithographs are still some of the most beloved and popular illustrations of Ancient Egypt and are highly sought after by collectors. This pair features scenes from the Temple of Medinet Habu and Temple of Edfu.

  • Raffle tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100 and may be purchased in advance. Winners need not be present.
  • Raffle items were generously donated by Visiting Committee member Andrea Dudek.
