Grants are offered in nearly 130 countries for the 1999-2000 academic year. Application Deadline: August 1, 1998 Special programs (e.g., international education administrators seminars, NATO) have later deadlines. Areas of Interest: Opportunities exist in every field of the social sciences, arts and humanities, sciences, and in many professional fields. Fulbright-supported activities include undergraduate and graduate lecturing, individual advanced research, joint research collaboration, and more. Eligibility Requirements: - U.S. citizenship (permanent residency is not sufficient). - Ph.D. or equivalent professional/terminal degree at the time of application. - For professionals and artists outside academe, recognized professional standing comparable to that associated with the doctorate in higher education is required, unless otherwise noted in an individual award description. - College or university teaching experience is required at the level and in the field of the proposed lecturing activity as specified in the award description. Grant Duration: Most grants range in duration from two to twelve months. Some lecturing assignments are for a semester, others for the full academic year. Language: English is sufficient for most awards, but foreign language proficiency is sometimes required in Central and South America and in francophone Africa.
