AIGYPTOS can be found at: http://www.aigyptos.uni-muenchen.de or via the home page of the Institute of Egyptology in Munich: http://www.fak12.uni-muenchen.de/aegyp The database was developed from 1990 onwards at the Institute of Egyptology in Munich, Germany and was available only locally for a number of years. Since 1996 the Institute of Egyptology in Heidelberg, Germany, is participating in the processing of the material. The AIGYPTOS-database concentrates on: + quick and comprehensive processing of the latest publications - monographies and articles - in the field of Egyptology (since the beginning of 1990) + Egyptological literature from the 70ies and 80ies (this part of the database is still in progress!) + comprehensive subject indexing of all material, by means of a standardized and detailed keyword system. In addition to the main issue which comprises Egyptology from Prehistory until Graeco-Roman times you will find material concerning Coptic Egypt and Ancient Nubia, but not to the same extent. Currently the database holds some 15.600 documents. It is regularly updated. At a time when the number of publications in our field of research increases with every year it is more and more necessary to have access to the latest bibliographical data by means of a detailed retrieval. We hope that AIGYPTOS can thereby be a useful tool for you. This volume is a convenient tool for all those interested in the location of territories and sites attested in the Bible as "East of the Jordan," now The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It presents the history of the identification of each biblical site and suggests the most likely location based on information provided by the biblical text, extra-biblical literary information, toponymic considerations, and archaeology. The volume treats all territories and sites of the Hebrew Scriptures in Transjordan, from the "Cities of the Plains" (e.g., Sodom and Gomorrah), the Exodus itineraries, and the territories and sites of the Israelite tribes (Reuben, Gad, and half Manasseh), to Ammon, Moab, Edom, and Gilead.
