Via Lake Shore Drive

  1. Take Lake Shore Drive south, from downtown Chicago, to the 57th Street exit (at the Museum of Science and Industry).
  2. Turn right and follow 57th Street as it curves around the Museum of Science and Industry.
  3. Continue about 1/4 mile and take the right fork onto the Midway Plaissance.
  4. Drive west on the Midway Plaissance about 1/2 mile to Woodlawn Avenue (the stoplight), and turn right.
  5. Turn left onto 59th Street.
  6. Continue one block to University Avenue, and turn right.
  7. The Oriental Institute is at the corner of 58th and University Avenue.

Via I-55 (Stevenson Expressway)

  1. Take I-55 east until it ends at Lake Michigan, exiting on Lake Shore Drive south.
  2. Take Lake Shore Drive south, from downtown Chicago, to the 57th Street exit (at the Museum of Science and Industry).

Via I-94 (Dan Ryan Expressway)

  1. Take I-94 south from downtown, or north from Indiana, to the Garfield Blvd. (55th Street) exit.
  2. Drive east on Garfield Blvd. through Washington Park, where Garfield Blvd. becomes 55th Street.
  3. Continue east along 55th Street to Woodlawn Avenue, and turn right.
  4. Drive south on Woodlawn Avenue to 59th Street, and turn right.
  5. Continue one block to University Avenue, and turn right.
  6. The Oriental Institute is at the corner of 58th and University Avenue.

Via Chicago Skyway:

  1. Take the Chicago Skyway north to the Stony Island exit, and continue north.
  2. After 60th Street, turn left onto a divided boulevard, the Midway Plaissance.
  3. At Woodlawn Avenue (the second stoplight), turn right.
  4. Drive one block north on Woodlawn Avenue to 59th Street and turn left.
  5. Continue one block to University Avenue, and turn right.
  6. The Oriental Institute is at the corner of 58th and University Avenue.

Parking Recommendations:

  1. There is public parking garage on 55th Street and Ellis Avenue. Visitor parking rates at Ellis Garage are: 0–2 hours - $8, 2–3 hours - $16, 3–4 hours - $20, 4–24 hours - $25. For additional information on visitor parking at the University, visit the Campus Parking website. 
  2. ​Street parking is difficult to find around campus during regular University operating hours, but is a good option on evenings and weekends.
