FACES OF ANCIENT EGYPT

Ancient Egyptian Art from the Oriental Institute Museum

Woman grinding grain

The face of this statue is so idealized that it could represent virtually any woman. The goal of the artist was to indicate that the woman was capable of grinding grain for the deceased for eternity.

Limestone and pigment, Old Kingdom, Dynasty 6, ca. 2400-2250 B.C. OIM 10638
