Tom Van Eynde: Thebes Photographic Project

Island of Seheil. Located in the First Cataract region, south of Aswan and Elephantine, the island and its quarries were dedicated to Khnum and his consort, Anuket, the divine patrons of this region. The granite quarry (partly shown here) contains hundreds of rock inscriptions executed by royal officials and priests who were sent here to procure stone for monumental building projects throughout ancient Egypt. (Caption - Peter Piccione)
