This lecture focuses on the the object inventory of an Old Babylonian (ca. 2000-1600 BC) temple at Iščali, from the Diyala region of  Iraq, excavated by the Oriental Institute. Rossberger's approach combines archaeological with textual evidence to gain new insights into social and cultural role and meaning of objects. Of special interest is the transmission of age-old regional votive traditions in this newly erected building dedicated to the cult of the goddess Ishtar Kititum.
