Akkadian ceased to be a spoken language some two millennia ago. But, Akkadian words lived on in other languages, from Aramaic and Arabic, to Greek and Latin, to Spanish and English. This lecture will trace some of those words, in an etymological tour of the ancient and modern Near East, the Aegean, and Europe.
