A new book has appeared by Walter Farber, Professor of Assyriology in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago and Research Associate and Tablet Room Curator for the Oriental Institute. The volume, published by Eisenbrauns this year in the Mesopotamian Civilizations series, is a comprehensive edition of incantations and rituals from ancient Mesopotamia called Lamaštu: An Edition of the Canonical Series of Lamaštu Incantations and Rituals and Related Texts from the Second and First Millennia B.C. According to the preface, work on the project began in 1969. It will provide the foundation upon which future studies of these interesting texts will be based.
