The Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago invites applications for the position of Research Associate in Egyptian Archaeology, with a special focus on settlement and harbor archaeology. The person hired in this capacity must have extensive fieldwork experience including the direction of larger projects for the various phases of the Pharaonic period and he/she will be expected to conduct excavations in Egypt.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in Egyptian archaeology, a substantial record of archaeological field experience in Egypt (excavations and surveys) and related publications, including peer-reviewed articles. The direction or co-direction of an existing and ongoing fieldwork project on an Egyptian settlement is required.
This is not a tenure-track faculty position but rather a full-time research position with the possibility of occasional undergraduate and graduate-level teaching.
The initial appointment as a Research Associate will be for one year, with the expectation that the appointment will be renewed thereafter on the basis of continued excellent performance and publication.
