To Live Forever: Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum at the Indianapolis Museum of Art

Day Trip from Chicago

Note: This event is accepting non-transportation registration at the rate of $25 only. Transportation inclusive registration has been sold out.
This Summer, join members of the Oriental Institute, the Chicago Chapters of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE), the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA), the South Suburban Archaeological Society of Illinois, and the Chicago Archaeological Society for a day exploring the art, history, culture, and ceremony of ancient Egypt.

The Indianapolis Museum of Art will be the first venue to host this touring exhibition, which will include some of the greatest masterworks of the Egyptian artistic tradition from the Brooklyn Museum’s extensive, world-renown collection. The exhibition, which explores Egyptian strategies for defeating death and achieving eternal life, will contain over 100 objects including coffins, statuary, jewelry, and vessels. The exhibition tells the story of mummification, the funeral procession and rituals, the contents of the tomb, the final judgment, and the idealized afterlife.

With two pickup locations in Chicago (Loop and Oriental Institute), we will enjoy a bus ride to Indianapolis, where we will have time to explore the Museum’s many galleries and enjoy lunch on our own at the Museum Cafe or Wolfgang Puck Restaurant. In the afternoon, we come together for a lecture by Egyptologist Emily Teeter, Research Associate and Special Exhibits Coordinator at the Oriental Institute, entitled “Deciphering Egyptian Art.” We then enter the To Live Forever exhibit as a group.

Drop offs in the Chicago Loop and at the Oriental Institute.

Free parking available at the Oriental Institute’s Lexington Lot. 7:00AM Departure from Chicago.
