Ancient Anatolia: A Journey To Turkey

September 28 - October 13, 1996



International round-trip, economy class air on an IATA/ARC carrier from Chicago to Istanbul; domestic, round-trip economy air within Turkey as indicated in itinerary. Airfares are based on special fares and are subject to change until time of ticketing.


Five-star hotels as indicated in the itinerary, based on double occupancy with private bath. The right is reserved to substitute hotels when necessary from those mentioned in the itinerary.


Buffet breakfasts where available, lunches and dinners with set menus as indicated in the itinerary. Coffee, tea and mineral water are included with all meals and mineral water will be available on all motorcoaches. Meals are shown for each day as follows: B-Breakfast, L-Lunch, D-Dinner. Note: Items not on the table d'hôte, if ordered, will be charged.


Based on motorcoach travel (unless otherwise indicated), including handling of two (2) pieces of baggage per person at airports. Passengers departing from or arriving by arrangements other those in the itinerary will be charged for individual transfer, if required or requested.


All sightseeing as per itinerary. All entrance fees to places on the itinerary are included.


The tour will be escorted throughout by Emily Teeter, Oriental Institute Museum Assistant Curator, and a local tour manager/guide.


Includes transportation and handling of two (2) pieces of luggage per person throughout.


All local/government taxes and gratuities on hotels, meals and services in the itinerary are included. Gratuities for guide and bus driver have been included.


Insurance is strongly recommended and travelers will be provided with application forms.


Final documents will be sent out approximately three weeks prior to departure.


Airport taxes and surcharges; airport portage; passport fees; visa fees; transportation of or fees for excess baggage; all items of a personal nature such as laundry and alcoholic beverages; extra services such as room service and resultant gratuities; optional excursions or deviations from scheduled tour; individual transfers to join or leave the group when traveling independently; meals not stated as included; items not on the table d'hôte; end-of-tour guides/escorts; any item not specifically mentioned as included.


All rates are quoted in U.S. dollars and are based on tariffs in effect April 1996. These rates are subject to change in the event of fuel surcharge, increase in local and/or government taxes and/or tariffs prior to theoperation of the tour. The quoted rate is based on a minimum of eleven (11) paying passengers. If the tour number falls below the specified number, rates are subject to change.


There will be no refunds for unused portions of the program. Rates are based on group participation, and there can be no refund for the portion not taken. It is also understood that refunds cannot be made to passengers who do not complete the tour, for any cause whatsoever.


Information on visa requirements will be sent to travelers, and a visa service is available for a fee.


Although the Oriental Institute, Artun Travel, Inc., and Tour Select, Inc. will make every effort to adhere to the printed itinerary, on rare occasions it may be necessary to adjust arrangements because of circumstances beyond our control (weather, aircraft or schedule changes, hotel requisitions, political disturbances, acts of terrorism). Should any adjustment be necessary, substitution will be made to the best of our ability and no refund will be made. Any additional costs necessitated by such changes are the responsibility of the tour member.

Artun Travel, Inc. reserves the right to cancel or withdraw any tour prior to departure, and to decline to accept or retain any person's membership in its entirety or for any part of the tour by refunding all payments before departure of the tour, or a proportionate balance of the unused portion of the tour, should such person's health, mental or physical condition, or general deportment impede the normal operation of the tour or impose on the enjoyment and comfort of the other tour members. Tour members deviating from the itinerary are responsible for the reconfirmation of continuing travel arrangements.


It is clearly understood that the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago/Artun Travel, Inc. will provide the educational enrichment program and are in no way responsible for the operations of Tour Select, Inc., local agents and other transportation companies. They exercise every care possible, but cannot be held responsible for personal injury in connection with the operation of any airplane, train, automobile, motor-coach, boat or any other conveyance which is used in carrying out those tours; nor are they responsible for delay, accident, sickness, loss of personal property, strikes armed conflict, acts of terrorism, additional expense due to weather, disruption of advertised schedules, refusal of visas, or other causes beyond their control. Further, the operation of the vehicles used in their tours is the full responsibility of the companies and individuals engaged in conveying ofpassengers; said companies or individuals are governed by the laws of the country of the operation and recourse for any mishap must be filed locally. Unforeseen conditions may necessitate tour changes and the right is reserved to make such changes or withdraw the tour as deemed advisable. The right is also reserved to refuse to accept or retain any passengers on any tour at any time. All cooperating IATA and ATC airlines are not to be held responsible for any act, omission or event during the time passengers are on board; the liability is that of a common carrier and the passage contract in use by such carriers, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract between saidcompanies and the purchaser of this tour and/or passenger.

The tour participant agrees on behalf of himself/herself, his/her dependents, heirs, administrators and assigns to abide by the above conditions and to release and hold harmless the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, Artun Travel, Inc., and Tour Select, Inc. and any of their representatives from any and all liabilities, for any delays, damage, loss, injury or death occurring in relation to this tour.


Upon receipt of your tax-deductible contribution of $350 to the Oriental Institute, Artun Travel, Inc. will send information about the flight arrangements, visas, terms and conditions, payments, cancellations, and other materials to you at the address indicated in the reservation form above.
