The Rise and Fall of Kerkenes Dag

Scott Branting, Oriental Institute
Wednesday, March 2, 2011
7:00 pm - Breasted Hall

The past two seasons of excavation at Kerkenes Dag have revealed exciting new evidence about the creation and destruction of this extraordinary imperial capital in the mid-sixth century BC. Located in the heart of Turkey, just to the north of Cappadocia, Kerkenes Dag has for almost a century lay shrouded in mystery. Now with the latest excavations, including the investigation of a potential Phrygian temple this past summer, new light is being shed on what transpired in this mega-city in the years prior to its fiery destruction.

Lectures are free and open to the public due to the generous support of Oriental Institute Members.
