While color photography only became commonplace in the 1960s, experimentation with this technique was already underway in the middle of the nineteenth century. The Sevruguin prints in the OI Museum collection, however, are strictly black-and-white. Nevertheless, thanks to the advent of modern technologies, tools are available to colorize these images. Doing so gives viewers the opportunity to experience and engage with Sevruguin’s photographs and these images of life in Iran in a unique way. This colorized image, for example, brings to life the diverse colors and textures of the models’ clothing and surroundings, as well as their jewelry.
