Mesopotamian Gallery: Crafts

The exhibits in this area of the Mesopotamian Gallery illustrate the many crafts that were practiced in ancient Mesopotamia. Pottery-making was an early invention in the region, and over the millennia both vessels and figurines were fashioned from clay and fired to increase their durability. Other crafts whose methods and skills are illustrated here were glazing and glass-making, stone carving, the weaving of cloth from both vegetable fibers and animal hair, the use of reeds both for building structures and fashioning baskets, and the working of metals such as copper, gold, silver and iron.
