The present book contains the first half of the report on archaeological research done by the Oriental Institute at Khirbat al-Karak, from October 1952 till July 1953. To give a comprehensible picture of the excavations the finds that could be called late, i.e., Hellenistic, were separated from the early finds which are almost exclusively defined to the Early Bronze Age. The aim of the authors is not to present in this report an extensive study, but rather to make the finds available for study. In the first chapter the excavations itself are described, while in the second chapter an identification and classification of the finds follow.
