Tell Dhahab is a small mound which was probably associated in ancient times with nearby Tell Judaihdah. The site was briefly excavated in 1938 by the Oriental Institute's expedition to the Amuq. Recent heavy earth moving activies have caused severe damage to Dhahab, removing substantial portions of the site. As the site's very survival is still threatened, the Amuq Valley Regional Projects survey team mapped the topography and recorded a the stratigraphy of the entire mound, visible in a 10 meter high profile. Tell Dhahab is one of dozens of sites in the Amuq which are damaged by earth moving every year. Therefore, it is one of the primary goals of the archaeological survey is to salvage as much information as possible from the most endangered sites.
