The renewed excavations of Megiddo by Tel Aviv University have offered a number of new stratigraphic insights to the mound famously excavated by the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago in the 1920s and 1930s. This workshop will present two cases where new data and observations enable reinterpretations of monumental temples first unearthed by the OI team in the sacred compound of Area BB: 1. The Stratum XV Triple Temple Complex, and 2. Stratum VIII Migdol Temple 2048. Both cases include finds associated with Egypt, which illuminate Egypt and Levantine relations during the late Old Kingdom and early Middle Kingdom - the Intermediate Bronze and Middle Bronze Ages. The implications of the new radiocarbon chronologies for the 3rd and early 2nd millennium are also explored.

This graduate student workshop is sponsored by the David Kipper Ancient Israel Lecture Series.
