Undergraduate: B.A. Cum Laude from Princeton University, 1956. Graduate: 1956-60 Dallas Theological Seminary, Master of Theology degree with Highest Honors in 1960. 1960-63 Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts, Master of Arts (1961) and Doctor of Philosophy (1963) degrees in Ancient Mediterranean Studies.

Fellowships, Awards and Grants

From 1961-1963 held a Title VI National Defense Foreign Language Fellowship for the study of Arabic. Grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Reference Tools Division, for the Hittite Dictionary in the years 1976, 1979, 1982, 1985, 1988, 1991 and 1994.
