University of Chicago faculty member John E. Woods is a professor of Iranian and Central Asian History. His work focuses primarily on the history of Turkey, Iran and Central Asia from the 13th - 18th century. Dr. Woods is a recent recipient of the Farabi Award in the Humanities and Islamic Studies, presented jointly by the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology and UNESCO.
