Reconstructing Identities in a Dark Age: The Regeneration of Northern Levantine Society in the Early Iron Age

Lynn Welton received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 2010 and held post-doctoral fellowships at Koç University in Istanbul and the University of British Columbia before coming to the Oriental Institute in 2015. Her work at the OI has been part of the CRANE project (Computational Research on the Ancient Near East), and has been focusing on environmental reconstruction and agent-based modeling in the Orantes Watershed region of southern Turkey, western Syria, and northern Lebanon. She excavates primarily in Turkey, but has also worked on proiects in Romania, Jordan, Ethiopia, Iran, and Iraqi Kurdistan. She has excavated at the site of Tell Tayinat in the Hatay province of Turkey since 2004, where she directs the excavations of the Early Bronze Age and Iron Age I remains and acts as the proiect's Lab Manager.

The lecture is the inaugural CMES Friday lecture on the ancient Middle East.
