New Exhibit to Feature Archival Images of Persepolis
A new exhibition at the Oriental Institute Museum of the University of Chicago will give visitors a rare glimpse inside the ancient city of Persepolis. “Persepolis: Images of an Empire,” which opens Oct. 13, includes archival photographs and a new multi-media presentation that document an astounding imperial complex of palaces constructed by the Persian kings Darius, Xerxes, and Artaxerxes I and III, who ruled between 522 and 338 BC in today’s southwest Iran.

Egyptian Coffin Conservation Project (Continued)
As part of a grant from the Antiquities Endowment Fund of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE), a project to conserve an Egyptian coffin in the Oriental Institute Museum collection (OIM E12072) has continued to make important progress. This unusual coffin contains a selection of spells from the Pyramid Texts and the OI conservation team is treating the coffin so that it can be exhibited in the Joseph and Mary Grimshaw Egyptian Gallery later this summer.
